8.00 - Other 4mm Scale Components
ITEM No. DESCRIPTION PRICE - £
8.01 Etched Screw Couplings:
This fret contains enough couplings for seven wagons and can be built to one of two lengths to cater for different buffer projections.  The fret includes the drawbar hooks and six of the central links from Instanter Couplings.  Brass Lacemaking Pins are needed to complete.
For a review of these couplings, see MRJ No 123.

8.02 20 Drawbar hooks and Backplates:
Hooks are double thickness and links are NOT provided.

8.03 Staffordshire Platform Nosing Pavoirs:
These etches reproduce the 18" x 6" x 6" platform nosing bricks widely used  on country stations. They are etched in 0.008" brass and therefore retain the diamond pattern grooving well. The fret has 9 x 78 mm straight lengths giving a total length of  700 mm (2' 3"). Each brick has a separate fold-down edge face enabling the strips to be cut into short lengths and laid accurately around curves as tight as 3' 0" radius.

8.05 Riveted Plate Girder Kit:
This kit has been developed from a design by Dave Bradwell which he produced for girders for his own layout. Incidentally a set of the Bradwell etches was used for the girder bridge over the Oxford line at Pendon.
The kit enables a fully detailed girder to be built which is correct in all its detail. All the rivetys are etched so no punching necessary. The finished girder is 168mm long and is a scale 6'0" deep. Additional end parts are included in the kit to enable it to be built as two shorter girders. The diagrams below show some of the variations possible with this kit. There is a lot of work in building this kit, some is fiddly and some fiddly, boringly repetetive and probably enough to drive you completely bananas.

8.06 Spear Top Fencing:
This etch reproduces spear top fencing in panels as the ral thing used to be made. It is a bit fiddly to make and a 10" length (10 panels) can be made from the fret.

8.07 Telegraph Poles:
This kit enables you to build correctly detailed telegraph poles and includes prototype details taken from a manual of Railway Signalling and Communications (no excuse now for not having correctly detailed and positioned telegraph poles).
19 No. 4' 0" arms (4 insulators per arm) and 4 No. 6' 0" arms (6 insulators per arm) are included on the arm fret and 46 step irons, together with pole caps and arm end brackets on the detail fret. The detail components are a bit small and fiddly and they do take a bit of time to build but then this is Masokits! Flex for the insulators is included and 5 timber poles which need to be sanded down to produce the tapers. You will also need to buy 0.45 mm brass rod (and some 0.012" guitar wire if you want to model the stays).

9.00 - Bogie Suspension Systems
For coaches, two types are available, inside bearing and pinpoint bearing. Guitar wire is used for the springs. Cosmetic sideframes are needed to complete the bogies in all cases.

Inside Bearing Subframe:
These have a bit more friction than the pinpoint brearing version and can be used for auto coaches and short trains. There is no need to rout out the back of the axlebox for the bearing for this type. The sideframe assembly jigs help to get the cosmetic bogie sides aligned with the subframe.
Please note that these are suitable for P4/S4 & EM standards ONLY
(See Stephen Williams book "The 4mm Coach - Part 2" for a review of these units)

Pinpoint Bearing Subframe:
If you are intending to run long trains, then this is the type of bearing to use because it has less friction. It is neccessary to rout out the back of the cosmetic side-frames to clear the end of the bearing.  Please note that the Pinpoint brass bearings are NOT provided.
(For a review of these units, see SCALEFOUR NEWS No.121 - February 2001)

Freight Bogies Subframes:
These consist of an etched equalised sub-frame for use with cosmetic sideframe overlays such as Ratio, RTR or other bogie kits. They accept standard pinpoint brass bearings (NOT supplied in the kit) and are so designed as to allow easy removal of the wheels without the need to bend or distort the sideframes. The kit is fairly straightforward to build. The kit contains etched brass components, brass tube and rod, and 8BA nuts and bolts. Two types are available.
Please note that these are suitable for P4/S4 & EM standards ONLY
For a review of these bogies, see SCALEFOUR NEWS No.94 (September, 1995) Illustration here.
